LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, August 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- “We represent 72 women who filed in State Court in Connecticut who allege they suffered meningiomas associated with Depo-Provera. Connecticut has an exception to its statute of repose when an injury occurs during the drug's useful life. We contend that this exception applies to these claims and affects the application of the statute of repose," states Greg Vigna, MD, JD, national neurological injury attorney.

Dr. Greg Vigna, MD, JD, says, "Depo-Provera is associated with a dose-dependent increase in the risk of meningiomas. It has been reported to cause mutations associated with meningiomas and has tumorigenic properties. The injury is alleged to occur when Depo-Provera is detectable in the body and therapeutically active in the body, which would be considered a harm during the ‘useful life’ of the drug. This may allow Connecticut plaintiffs with injuries occurring more than 10 years from their last dose to pursue their cases.”

Dr. Vigna adds, “In California, we represent latent injury cases, and four are Bellwether Defense picks because they are viewed by some as weaker cases. We define latest injuries as those in which meningiomas were caused years prior but these manifest years and sometimes decades later. Medical literature describes meningiomas as conditions that may require surgical management, radiation, and medical monitoring. Our firm's position is that information regarding the known or knowable risks associated with Depo-Provera is relevant to evaluating whether women would have chosen to use the drug had that information been provided throughout the drug's life cycle."

Dr. Vigna concludes, “I prescribed a significant amount of Depo-Provera from 1993-1996, and I was not aware of the risks discussed in these cases. As a practicing brain injury physician, I would have wanted to have information regarding the potential risks of Depo-Provera and meningiomas. I would not have prescribed this drug had I been aware of these risks, which my firm alleges were knowable at the relevant times. We look forward to reviewing Pfizer's complaint files that relate to meningiomas."
